Disability and Education
Education is an integral part of life which should be given to all the people including the disabled children and adults. Education for all is a universal principal which should be formulated in the whole world. The primary goal of every institution should be to teach all the people whether they are disabled or not.
One of the goals of millennium development is to attain the universal primary education till 2015. It is estimated that out of 115 million children, 40 million children have disabilities and universal primary education cannot be achieved if the disabled children are not included under the program.
In today’s world, the disabled children and adults are not only getting primaryeducation but are also getting secondary and tertiary education which is provided by the World Bank. The disabled people are not only getting the opportunity to avail the right education but also treated as a part of the education system.
There is a strong involvement from the parents and the society regarding the education for the disabled people which is developed only in a healthy environment and also depends on the relation between the teacher and the child or adult, school and health and school accessibility. All disabled children and adults should be given admission in the schools and colleges and encourage them to take active part in any stream.
It is seen in many underdeveloped countries that due to poverty, the children are debarred from seeking education. The disabled people are also not getting any education in these underdeveloped countries. Due to disability, the children and adults are ignored in every field whether it is education or employment. A large number of disabled children and adults are excluded from seeking primary and secondary education. Now, number of developments has been made in education field for the disabled people.
Disability Equality in Education is a non governmental organization which has developed number of facilities in providing consultancy, training and resources that improve the condition of disabled people in fields of education system and other areas. This organization encourages the development of inclusive education for the disabled people. Now, the goals of this organization can be achieved in the whole world.
Special Educational Needs and Disability Act 2001 set up various authorized rights for the disabled children and adults in seeking education. According to this Act, disabled people should not be discriminated against any education, training and any other services. The disabled people can have access to the various services covered under the Act and they are examinations, arrangements for work placements, field trips, assessments, libraries and short courses.
